NOLABJJ was founded in 2000 by a group of BJJ enthusiasts, and was the first Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu school to become established in the Greater New Orleans area. Since then, our school has become one of the top academies in the South. Accumulating a strong core of grapplers at all levels and over 90 belted students, we have created a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu legacy to continue into the future.
NOLABJJ is run by black belts Matthias Meister (Uptown location), Marco Macera (Metairie location), and with the generous help of “Doc” Eddie Lirette. All three are third generation black belts under Professor Raphael Ellwanger, promoted through Carlos Gracie Jr. All our classes are taught by professionals with a great deal of passion and love for the sport of Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. We are a competition-oriented school that believes in hard work coupled with a light-hearted and fun approach to this awesome sport. Whether your goal is to compete, get in shape, learn self-defense, or enjoy a martial art, NOLABJJ will get you there.
