We will be restarting our women’s only classes in March 2012. Classes will be Monday nights at 7:30 PM in the uptown location. This class will be taught at the beginner level and have a strong self-defense component, though all experience levels are welcome. If you have questions, please contact us using the form at the bottom of this page. See you on the mat soon!
** There is a co-ed BJJ class prior to this, so when you come in, please go change and start stretching/warming up so we can have more time for instruction.
Our Women’s class as of Spring 2011, with instructors Caroline Vanek, Jessica Edwards, and Sharde Nooner
FAQ
How much does the women’s class cost?
If you are a new student and you only want to take the women’s class (once per week) then the cost is $50 per month (no contract). Your first two BJJ Women’s classes are free. If you are already taking the regular BJJ classes at temple gym, there is no additional charge.
Can I still take this class if I have no previous experience?
Absolutely. All of us started as beginners at some point, and unless you tell us otherwise, we do not expect you to have any prior training.
What if I am not in great shape right now?
No problem. We teach people at all fitness levels, and your fitness will improve as you continue.
Why is this a women’s only class?
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is typically a male dominated sport, and many classes you might find are 80-100% male. That can be intimidating, so we wanted to offer a class where women can train with partners that are of similar size, strength, and weight.
What should I wear to class?
If you already own a gi, that is great. Alternatively, athletic pants and a t-shirt are also fine.
What is the class like?
We usually start with a quick warm-up/stretch, and then practice drills and techniques. Last, depending on the skill level of the participant, a roll session will be offered. In jiu-jitsu, rolling is like realistic practice. It helps you develop the conditioning, endurance, resistance/sensitivity to your opponent’s moves, and other elements needed for a good self defense.
